Another game from the Witcher series is officially announced. It is being created on a new engine
CD Projekt RED’s unexpected announcement on social media caused a great stir. Another Witcher is officially being created.
Developers, in the latest entry on the official website of the game, informed about the creation of a new game in the series. Additionally, they also shared with the community about the transition to the new engine (which comes with an interesting collaboration) and confirmed that the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion is still in development. What exactly did the creators say in the short entry?
New Witcher, new engine, new collaboration
First, it will be best to quote the authors of the upcoming work:
We’re happy to announce that the next installment in The Witcher series of video games is currently in development, kicking off a new saga for the franchise.
It is worth focusing on the cooperation that has been established between CD Projekt RED and Epic Games. In short, this information means that the new The Witcher is being developed on Unreal Engine 5. The developers also mention the possibility of modifying it, which is to help adapt it to their needs.
This is an exciting moment as we’re moving from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5, beginning a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. It covers not only licensing, but technical development of Unreal Engine 5, as well as potential future versions of Unreal Engine, where relevant. We’ll closely collaborate with Epic Games’ developers with the primary goal being to help tailor the engine for open-world experiences.
Unfortunately, at the moment this is all the information shared by the creators about the new version. As they themselves mention, the schedule and release date are not available yet.
