Why, according to Riot, is Yuumi both the most difficult and easiest LoL character?

Players’ discussion on Yuumi. Is the character difficult or easy to master?

Yuumi has been a huge controversy in the League of Legends community since her release. Although each character has a unique set of skills in its own way, Yuumi stood out from the rest. The supporting character hooks up to one of her allies, gaining invulnerability, enhancing his attacks, and healing him with relatively little contribution of her own.

On the other hand, Yuumi has some complex mechanics to distinguish more experienced heroine players from those just starting out. Improvements to the heroine have recently been announced, which will be primarily aimed at making her less powerful on the professional LoL scene (Riot about Yuumi’s remake in LoL. What will the creators focus on? Will the heroine be less annoying?). What does one employee think of the heroine?

Rioter talking about Yuumi

Yuumi appeared in League of Legends back in 2019, and from the very beginning, she was a truly controversial character. Some people hated her for how little she is able to contribute to a team’s victory, while others found her ability to be untouchable for practically the entire game simply unfair.

On the net, one could regularly encounter various posts criticizing both the heroine and the developers who created her and are unwilling to make changes that would affect her core mechanics. What did Rioters write about Yuumi 2 years ago? A user with the nickname Jozoz drew particular attention to a passage in which the creators wrote that mastering Yuumi could be difficult, as with characters like Qiyana or Akali.

Yuumi’s mastery curve is more in line with champions like Akali and Qiyana, who continue to see win rate growth well beyond the first ~20 games, than it is to champions like Neeko and Mordekaiser.

All of this combines to make Yuumi a difficult champion to master, albeit in ways that look different from the rest of the champion roster. (You might compare this to someone like Singed, whose proxy playstyle is totally different from any other champion and takes ~100 games to master.)

On the other hand, there are statements from Riot Phroxzon, who writes that because of her affordability, Yuumi is a great character for new players.

We think Yuumi has a valuable place in the game to onboard your new friends and help them learn spell usage & nuances of positioning.

The character, on the one hand, is compared to some of the most difficult characters to master, and on the other, described as someone great for new players. The author of the entry believes that the statements are mutually exclusive.

It should go without saying that a good champion for new players would be an easy to learn champion where you can focus on learning fundamentals of the game instead of specific champion skills.

When Yuumi is so unique and has such a steep mastery curve, it indicates to me that it will be harder to focus on the game as a whole because you are tied up learning Yuumi’s intricacies. Just like if you were playing Singed (or even Akali/Qiyana). Wouldn’t someone like Garen be way more valuable for new players to learn the game?

Commenters pointed out an error in the reasoning of the author of the post, mentioning the very popular statement in the gaming community “easy to learn, hard to master.” It was also mentioned that Yuumi is a heroine that is good not so much for new players, but for those already familiar with the game who want to introduce fresh people to LoL. Yuumi can be played by virtually anyone, but few will be able to take full advantage of her skill set.
