As the year ends, this is a great opportunity to look back and recap what has happened in League of Legends over the past 12 months.
This year has been really fruitful and has been largely focused on the development of the game’s lore. Of course, that wasn’t the only important thing that happened in the past 365 days. There were several other events in the game, new characters appeared, and more.
Summary of 2021 at LoL
January
The very beginning of the year was incredibly interesting and aroused a lot of emotions. January started with the start of the new season and the premiere of the long-awaited hero – Viego. The Ruined King is one of the most important characters in LoL’s lore, which is why thousands of players waited for the opportunity to play as him on Summoner’s Rift. With the arrival of Viego, Ruin also began in the game – an event with a grand finale in July.

February and March
The next two months were a bit calmer, although they did not lack attractions. The Lunar Beast event, which is related to the celebration of the Chinese New Year, has started that month. On this occasion, themed skins were released, and in the meantime, Valentine’s skins also returned to the store.
March belonged to the return of the Battle Academia. Another school has joined the universe, attended by Caitlyn, Leona, Garen, Wukong, and Yone.
April
April in League of Legends is the month of April Fool’s Day, the day of jokes. On this occasion, the Space Groove event took place, which offered not only a reward pass but a lot of interesting and colorful skins.
Also in April, Gwen premiered – the heroine directly related to Viego and his late wife Isolda. As the character appeared on the occasion of the Space Groove event, she also got a themed skin.

May and June
The annual League of Legends – Mid-Season Invitational took place in May. In addition, another batch of bee skins for Yuumi, Kog’Maw, and Malzahar was released, and the PROJECT: BASTION event took place.
June belonged to Dr. Mundo, who was reworked. The hero, who was released on September 2, 2009, was given a new life in 2021 and returned to Summoner’s Rift in a refreshed form.
July
In July 2021, one of the biggest story events in the entire League of Legends took place – Rise of Sentinels. Senna and Lucian spent months looking for teammates to face the Ruined King in July. A new hero appeared among the Sentinels of Light – Akshan, who premiered on July 22.
Unfortunately, both the event and the new champion have been criticized by the game community. Riot, who eventually admitted their mistake and confirmed that the event did not turn out very well, noted that Rise of Sentinels had contributed a lot to LoL itself, as the creators had learned a lot and drew conclusions for the future.
August
In August, the well-known and popular Coven series returned, which appeared in the game with a themed event.
The second part of the month belonged to the Pentakill group. Fans got the band’s third album – Lost Chapter. Its premiere was special because it was organized in the form of an interactive concert during which the band members struggled against Viego.
September and October
In September, another character related to the Ruined King appeared – Vex. There was also a Night & Dawn event that gave players new skins and a pass.
October is, of course, the League of Legends World Cup. The EDG and DWG KIA teams met in the grand finale. EDward Gaming, a team from China, won the honorable title of World Champions, and its members could enjoy the huge cup that many e-sportsmen dreams about.
Also in October, Dragonmancer skins were released.

Arcane heroes also visited various games, including PUBG or Fortnite.
Also in November, two games related to the LoL universe were released – Hextech Mayhem and Ruined King.
December
And so, after an eventful year, December 2021 comes. The last month of the year is, of course, preseason, and thus – many new products, including new dragons, changes to runes, items, and more.
December is also the Debonair event, which brought the Pass along with some skins in the series.
