ShowMaker play perfectly shows why this mechanic with Zhonya should be reworked
A great play from one of the best midlaners in the world. But isn’t it too OP?
Probably everyone has heard about ShowMaker. He is one of the best League of Legends players right now and plays mid lane. Now we can observe his skills at the 2021 World Cup.
There, he showed an amazing trick with Zhonya’s Hourglass, which the community took as the perfect example of a candidate who should be changed. What is it and what did it look like?
ShowMaker and Zhonya
Zhonya’s Hourglass is an item with a relatively long cooldown that puts the character in 2.5 seconds of immortality without the ability to move or use any skills. Item is especially useful during initiation, where, after attacking the enemy, we are able to survive the opponent’s focus.
However, the effect can be extended, all you need to do is have one of the components of Zhonya’s Hourglass – Stopwatch. While it’s normally consumed when buying a full item, there’s a little trick that allows you to have both a one-use Stopwatch and Zhonya. ShowMaker used it in the match against Cloud9.
The entire game can be watched on the official Riot Games Twitch channel.
As we can see, after a quick initiation, the player used both the Hourglass and the Stopwatch. This allowed him to gain as much as 5 seconds of valuable time for his team to finish the action he had started.
Some believe that this is far too strong a combo and should be taken off, even if it can only be done once per game. Perhaps this will change in preseason 2022, but at the moment it is not certain.
