One of the Rioters responds to feedback about the Sentinels of Light event.
The Sentinels of Light event was unique in its own way to both players and the creators of League of Legends. Riot decided to give players a large plot event, which included the course of the fight with Viego and his efforts to revive Isolde.
It was the first event of this type issued by the creators of LoL and therefore not everything went as expected. Reav3 – Lead Champion Producer commented on this and announced that players will receive more information soon.
What’s next for story events?
Players have repeatedly criticized the fact that the selection of champions who took part in the Sentinels of Light events was heavily dictated by how popular the champions are. The creators were accused of wanting to sell more skins, and for this reason, some characters appeared in cinematics, while others did not.
Another reason to criticize Riot was the poor representation of heroes via dialogue. These were often made shallow and shown from a completely different side, which did not fit some of them, and the new title of Riot Forge – Ruined King – showed how the story of the event should have been done (Only after Ruined King is released do players see how tragic the Sentinels of Light event in LoL was).
In a thread from 5 months ago, in which a user with the nickname mikesweeney13 expressed his dissatisfaction about the event, one of the Rioters unexpectedly commented. When asked if Riot would revert the event and re-publish it, taking into account feedback from the game’s fans, if he’d only been given the chance, he replied in the affirmative.
Of course, their are many things I would have done differently and we will 100% take player feedback for future events. We are currently working on a devblog retro of the ruination campaign that should go into a lot of details on this. We are trying to get it out before the end of the year.
The creators are therefore aware that the event did not turn out as expected by the players and it might be that the next story events will not have the same mishaps as Sentinels of Light.
