How does the number of wards in LoL affect your win rate? Which role, apart from support, uses them the most?

Why is vision in League of Legends so important? How does placing wards affect the outcome of the game?

One of the most important elements of the game, which is often forgotten by players from lower divisions, are wards, both regular and control wards. It is worth not only setting them on the map, but also cleaning them to deprive opponents of vision, which often contributes to many important decisions during the match.

Most League of Legends tutorials talk about warding and how important it is. Unfortunately, beginners or those who are in the lowest divisions often have a misconception that placing totems is the role of a support and only they should worry about it.

This, of course, is not the case, as every Summoner’s Rift player should be interested in vision – not only in creating it but also in destroying the opponent’s wards. The map is large, so one person won’t be able to control everywhere.

The question here arises – does the number of placed wards actually affect your win rate? If so, which one?

Vision in League of Legends

Websites that collect statistics from LoL often have information on how vision placement affects the outcome of the game.

As you might expect, the greater the number of wards placed during the match gives the team a better chance of winning. It seems obvious, although many people still forget it.

Since it is already known that providing vision is extremely important during the match and not only support should be responsible for it, it is worth taking a look at the statistics on the use of wards in individual roles.

These are the statistics for the Platinum+ division:

As you can see, according to the statistics, right after the support, ADCs use wards most often. A little lower is the middle line, followed by the top. However, the differences between the lines are not particularly noticeable.

However, the question arises – how has the approach to the vision changed over the years? It turns out that it did a lot. Perhaps this is due to the fact that there are more and more guides and coaches or simply awareness of the most important elements of the game has increased. It does not change the fact that today’s totem-related statistics are very different from what it was a few years ago.

In the past, it was the jungler who cared about the vision most often (not counting the support), and the ADC did the least, which is completely opposite to what is the case today.

The Summoner’s Rift map looks interesting, showing the places where the totems appear in the first 15 minutes, between 15 and 25, and after the 25th minute of the game.

Finally, a few ward-related records. As you know, League of Legends players like to break absurd records, such as the longest possible ARAM, the highest number of kills, or the highest number of mastery points on a given hero. When it comes to wards, it is no different.

Season 12, while not very long, has already broken several vision records. First, players who are at the top for the ranking of the most frequently placed wards:

Since we talk about vision, we can’t forget about destroying it. Here are the records in this category:

Ward-related bugs

Bugs related to the vision could not be left unmentioned. It would seem that totems are something that is unlikely to be broken. Admittedly, there could be situations in which the ward would disappear too quickly or would be impossible to destroy. However, is there anyone who has seen walking totems?

The bug related to moving wards is very recent and only on March 7, 2022, the famous YouTuber Vandiril recorded a video about it.

Finally, League of Legends is a team game where ensuring vision on the map is incredibly important. Matches are dynamic and it is difficult to predict every possible situation, so it’s better to stay safe instead of risking and losing to a ganking opponent.

In addition to setting up wards, it is also important to destroy them, as this makes it harder for enemies to control the map and important objectives such as the Dragon and Baron.

Each role should be concerned with the vision. Of course, in the early stages of the game, players will mainly watch over their own lane, but with time it is worth remembering about placing wards in other places as well.
