Challengers on flexes in LoL are boosted. Riot needs to change this ranked queue

League of Legends

The LoL community has discovered that Challenger players on the “NA” server are boosting their accounts.

The flex ranked queue in League of Legends is considered inferior by players. Although many people dispute this fact and claim that there is no difference, the Challenger table from the North American server shows something a little different.

It turned out that most of the top players did not get the rank fairly and were accused of boosting.

Boosted challengers in LoL

Getting a top rank in the most popular MOBA game in the world is something special. Especially since the number of places in it is limited and entry is determined by the LPs earned. The greatest value is the one earned in the solo ranked queue because it is up to the player to decide how he gets along with a random team and whether he can do good in a match. On flexes, on the other hand, you can play with friends and… underplay the ranks. This depends on the limitations of the queue. On solo/duo, such ranks can combine:

As you can see, only players with a small difference in division can play in pairs. However, above Master, it is no longer possible and only solo players can join the queue. On flexes it is different and solved in a more lenient way:

If you include arranged groups of five, having a challenger, you can boldly play with 4 friends with accounts having platinum 4. This is how this kind of boosting works in a nutshell. Intentionally underplaying ranks in order to run into weaker opponents. However, this is not about playing with friends who actually have this rank.

With one challenger in the team, 4 smurfs play, who purposely lower the rank, win a few games – they get promoted, and then, without a challenger, lose a few, win again, lose, and the process loops. This is what the top in North America looks like:

Thus, the team is able to achieve skyrocketing WR rates and get a lot of LP. Here are some screenshots showing the above-explained principle in practice. An example is the TOP 1 Challenger with the nickname LPL Add Oil:

Since boosting has been done, and a little too much LP has appeared in the account, you need to lose a few games. Without the challenger, of course:

So you can see very well what MMR accounts have. Playing “solo” gives them low golds as opponents and occasionally some diamonds will appear. Interestingly, they do not boost a single account, and among the “challengers” there are other people at the top. The problem is very big, but it occurs mainly on North American servers. In Europe, on flexes in the top spot, there are often people who also have a high ranking on SoloQ.

Riot Games, according to the players, needs to solve this. The playing field is not that big, but the developers should deal with it. For example, restrict challengers from playing with ranks below the high diamond. While this won’t solve the problem, it will increase the opposing team’s chances of winning.
