Discord is undergoing a revolution. How to claim your nickname earlier? No more numbers

Discord is undergoing a very big change that gets rid of the numbers after the nickname.

It will be a real race for unique nicknames. This is because Discord is doing away with numbered nicknames. Now everyone will have their own unique name. DC has not stated when exactly this will come into effect. The official announcement only reads that it is talking about “several weeks”.

Thus, the proper name and the display name are entered. They can be completely different from each other. One will serve to identify the account, the other is simply to play a visual role for others.

What kind of nicknames are allowed on Discord?

Nicknames are supposed to be between 2 and 32 characters. That is, it is known that everyone will first throw themselves at these short names. “aa” or “00” is probably just a matter of moments. Anyway, you can’t use any special characters, and you can’t add two dots in a row.

You can, however, add:

  • Characters from the Latin alphabet,
  • Numbers,
  • Underline character,
  • Period.

Discord says that it will be possible to give people a nickname as well as this proper name, but the identifying one is more important. On servers, you will be able to use the one displayed.

When will it come in? The exact date is not known. In theory, in a few weeks. Discord is expected to send notifications when the new option is enabled. A message will appear on the screen:

Please update your username.

On the other hand, everyone will probably want to get dibs on it before anyone else anyway. So it’s worth watching Discord’s communications on Twitter or elsewhere. There is currently no way to get ahead of others and be first.

On the one hand, it’s cool, on the other hand, I’m sure many people will be disappointed that their nickname was taken.
