Changes to hitboxes in the upcoming Counter-Strike 2. What’s easier and what’s harder to hit?

Changes to hitboxes in the latest installment of Counter-Strike compared to its predecessor.

Hitboxes are some of the most important elements of games in the FPS genre – especially those in which players take part in online matches. In order to make matches as fair as possible, it is important that both teams play on the same terms and the gameplay itself is balanced.

Due to the fact that the game is being ported to a completely new engine, it was expected that the changes would also affect the hitboxes. What exactly do the changes look like?

How much will the hitbox change?

The most important change is that now all models will have the same hitbox. Comparing them to the previous installment, you can see that the area where a hit to the head is scored is larger by up to 20%.

Now, all player models have the same hitboxes size. When comparing the head hitboxes from CS2 to CSGO, they’ve increased by 4-20% depending on the agent skin.

There is also a table that shows a comparison between the last Counter-Strike installment that players have been able to play for the past years and its latest release.

Larger differences can be seen not only in the size of the head but also in the neck or hands. It is certainly important to normalize hitboxes in the case of the latest CS installment, which may allow developers to issue character skins. As long as visibility is taken into account, the cosmetic element should not provide an advantage in gameplay, as hitting it will be as easy as with models that are already in the game.
