Babies will no longer be objects, 2 new worlds and early concepts for The Sims 4 next year

At a recent event livestream, a lot of new things were really announced when it comes to the future of The Sims.

Behind The Sims Summit was a huge event not only for The Sims players but also for the game developers themselves. October 18 was not only the day of the release of The Sims Four as a free-to-play model for everyone but also a slew of news, as well as the announcement of work on the long-awaited The Sims 5, which we wrote about here.

Of course, it wasn’t The Sims 5 alone. The fourth installment of the game will still be supported and updated for a long time to come, and the developers shared some very cool news they are currently working on. A few early concepts and designs have emerged, which will reportedly appear as early as next year.

What’s new in The Sims 4 in 2023?

EA and Maxis are setting the bar higher and higher. This showed not only early concepts for the next generation of The Sims but also projects yet to appear in the fourth installment of the series. During the 30-minute live show, some interesting things to come over the next year were presented. A short trailer was even created for it.

In the video itself, you can see that players are still waiting for:

  • 2 new worlds (from the next two additions planned for next year),
  • new buildings,
  • new CAS facilities.

However, this is definitely not all. As noted by the presenter herself, Phoebe Robins, at the end of the trailer we hear a loud baby crying. What could it be about?

Persistent viewers who made it to the end of the stream were able to watch a short clip that explains it.

Yes, all indications are that the developers are finally going to do something with the youngest age group, i.e. newborns. Until now, infants in The Sims 4 acted as an object with which you could perform a few interactions at cross purposes – feed them, change their diaper, play with them and that’s basically it. Now, however, it looks like they will become real Sims.

This is definitely one of the things that Simmers enjoyed the most during the entire Behind The Sims Summit. Many players have been asking the developers for years that the newborns be updated in some way.

There was talk of The Sims 5, there was talk of new additions and updates planned for 2023, but that’s obviously not all. The developers also presented their idea for a completely new platform, which will have the task of uniting all modders and authors of Custom Content for The Sims.

For years, The Sims™ community has been expanded by modders and custom content creators. We are taking a big step forward in recognizing and celebrating modder contributions. For the first time in our history, we’ll have a destination for The Sims 4 players to download mods and user-generated content. This will come to life through our new collaboration with Overwolf, on their mod manager and discovery platform for user-generated content, CurseForge. The platform is a moderated, curated space for users and creators to manage The Sims 4 mods and user-generated content.

It looks like a platform for mod developers is about to appear. More news has been announced already for this winter. The official website of The Sims even featured a full article on this new project, so you can already look there for more information.

Behind The Sims Summit revealed to fans of the title a lot of news that will slowly make its way into the game starting in the new year. A next-generation game, big projects, more additions, and interesting updates – and this is supposedly just the beginning.
