Minecraft will be free for many people. Mojang made the decision and combines the two versions

Minecraft

Mojang made the decision we wrote about a few months ago. The developers decided that 2022 is the right time to combine the Java version with Bedrock.

On the official website of Minecraft there is an announcement of the merger of two versions: Bedrock and Java. “No more picking,” writes Mojang.

Does this have any consequences for players? Absolutely, although if you play only Java or only Bedrock, you probably won’t notice any difference.

The two versions merge into one

From July 7, Mojang will be selling Minecraft “bundled”, meaning you can buy both Bedrock and Java versions in one. There will be no need to wonder which one to pick anymore. So what’ll be actually free in that scenario?

The point is, if you have Java, you’ll get Bedrock for free. And the other way around, if you have Bedrock, Java will be assigned to you automatically, at no extra charge. This is true for all Minecraft players. You don’t need to take any actions, nor sign up anywhere, you just see a new option in the launcher.

So clarifying – Java and Bedrock will not become one game of course. These are still two separate productions, operating in some way independently. The thing is that now these will be editions sold as a whole.

Additionally, every existing player will get the latter version for free automatically. You will be able to choose between editions from the launcher.
