What happened to the idea of chat during the game loading screen in LoL? Why did Riot abandon it?

Players recalled that a few years ago, League of Legends developers were considering a certain feature related to the match loading screen.

LoL has been on the market for more than a dozen years. It’s perfectly normal that during this time various ideas and concepts for making the gameplay or client actions more interesting were created, which eventually did not come into effect for various reasons. Only the developers know how many projects ended up in the trash.

Some were announced or at least mentioned, but due to the fact that no one implemented them, they were soon forgotten and today hardly anyone gives them a second thought.

However, this was not the case here, as one player decided to revisit an idea from four years ago, specifically the concept of chat during the match loading screen.

What happened to the chat in the game’s loading screen?

Some people are now probably wondering about what chat we are talking about. About 4 years ago there was a mention that Riot was testing new technology and it was the ability to write with the team during the game loading screen. This was mentioned by well-known YouTuber Vandiril, among others.

After so long, most fans of the game have completely forgotten about it. However, one of them decided to dig up information about the planned chat and ask the community why the concept didn’t work out.

At some point, chat during loading screen used to be a concept on PBE but then it got reverted.

I randomly remember the one time we got this feature on the PBE server but since it was buggy it got reverted, it has been like 4 and a half years since then, should Riot try this again?

I think this could be a pretty cool feature if it work and we get to discuss about game plan before we got in but I do understand it probably wouldn’t worth the works as they have other stuffs to do (non-sarcastic).

And here the question arises – why was the concept not ultimately realized? According to commentators, the answer is trivially simple – over the years, the game loading screen lasts shorter and shorter, at times only a dozen seconds (or less), which means that no one would have had time to develop the tactics of the match or get acquainted with the rest of the team during that time. In other words, the feature seems completely unnecessary.

Some people said in the comments that they would rather do something else than write with the team while the match is loading. Check their opponents on stats pages, write back to friends outside LoL, have a drink or something to eat.
