The head of Riot has approved the budget for next year. It is larger than in previous years.
Riot Games is one of the largest companies, which as of late is no longer involved only in computer games. Initially, the studio had only League of Legends, which made some gamers make fun of the company’s name. Many titles were announced for LoL’s tenth anniversary, and most of them have already seen the light of day. We are talking about Valorant, Legends of Runeterra or the role-playing game Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, among others.
Some time ago, the Arcane series was also released, which was incredibly well received by both fans and people who had nothing to do with League of Legends. This quickly gave the creators a sign that the world wanted to see another season of the adventures of the LoL heroes.
Riot is much bigger than when it started – LoL is more popular and the studio definitely has more employees. For this reason, the budget the company has year after year is also growing. What does the boss say about next year?
Riot Games in 2023
Nicolo Laurent has been a board member at Riot since joining the company in 2009 and has served as CEO since 2017. According to Riot’s website, where a description of Rioter can be found, as CEO Nicolo oversees strategy, operations, products, and works to ensure that the studio delivers the highest quality experience to players around the world.
What exactly did the studio employee say about the upcoming 2023 in an interview?
When we released League of Legends, our studio had 30 or 40 members. I don’t remember the exact number. Currently, there are more than 4,000 of us, with about 500 employees on the LoL team alone.
Last week I approved the budget plans for 2023, and this is the largest amount we’ve had so far. A lot is really going to happen next year. We continue to be a “small independent developer.” We’ve been doing the same thing for 13/14 years, and I’m asking myself if we can continue to do it for another 25 years, to let different generations unite, to get to the point where parents encourage their children to play.
Among other things, fans could learn that next year will be really important for the studio. A huge budget means a fair amount of new products that will hit the hands of players. We’re talking, among other things, about the second season of Arcane or games the studio has been working on for some time – including Project L and Project F.
