Varus from League of Legends will get the VFX update. How does the refreshed hero look like?
Varus will receive completely new animations and sound effects for his skills.
In the current patch, a refreshed version of Caitlyn has been added to the game, which has improved not only the model of the heroine but also the splash art of skins and the effects of her abilities (both visual and audio). Additionally, about a month ago, another character – Syndra – also had a new look for her skills. So it’s time for another hero, and it’s Varus.
What is known about this champion’s VFX? The creators shared with the community both a description of the changes and a video presenting them.
VFX of Varus from League of Legends
Varus arrived on Summoner’s Rift on May 8, 2012. He is not a particularly popular champion today, and statistics show that he is not doing very well in the current meta.
The effects of his abilities are already old, especially when you take into account the basic appearance and older skins such as Arclight and Arctic Ops. Therefore, the creators decided that it was the perfect moment to take a closer look at the aforementioned champion and refresh it to better match the current graphics standards.
Similar to the previous VFX updates we’ve made in the past (Syndra, Zilean, Malzahar, etc), we’re working on updates to the Visual Effects (VFX) of champions whose spell effects are in need of some love. Our aim is to get their VFXs to current League standards and improve gameplay clarity.
This time, it’s Varus’s turn, for 11.24’s PBE Patch!
As you can see in the video above, the hero will receive an update of visual effects on both the base skin and other skins. Not all of them will have the same changes, as the new cosmetic elements do not differ significantly from the current LoL standards (the last skin of this champion was released last year).
What exactly will be changed for each skin?
-
Base: Complete overhaul
-
Blight Crystal: Recolored from new base
-
Arclight: Mirroring new base and cleaned up
-
Arctic Ops: Mirroring new base and cleaned up
-
Heartseeker: Cleanup
-
Dark Star: Cleanup

The main goal we had for this one VFX Update was to improve clarity, especially for his Q and R missile widths.
Some fans have already commented on the changes presented above. Gamers think that the update looks really good, and are glad Riot took notice of this champion.
