The new chat in LoL has caused confusion, resulting in some players getting banned

The chat in League of Legends, which is for premades only, is also observed by Riot.

One of the latest updates to League of Legends included improvements to the chat, which has remained virtually unchanged since the very beginning of Riot’s production. Players can switch between windows, and one of the available chat rooms is now the one shared with players with whom you joined a queue.

However, it turns out that the chat is also subject to all the restrictions that apply to the text channel, which can be accessed by all players in the game. Riot has tightened its grip on toxic players and those who leave games or go AFK.

Among other things, it has restricted how players can communicate via chat. Fans thought that the introduction of a channel provided for the party would allow them to use it without restrictions, but it turns out that it too is taken into account by the system that filters toxic messages.

You can get banned for writing in a chat for a group

One player published a post detailing a situation in which he was restricted in chat after he sent a message to his friends as a joke, and a random player outside the premade reported him for something completely different.

If you have the “Party chat only” option, and you banter with your friends, and a random duo report you for not playing well, then your chat log with your party will be scanned by the system.

This does not solve the issue where premades want to banter with each other without interfering with the rest of the players. The ancient piece of advice of “turn off chat” has never been more literal. Don’t make the same mistake my friend did.

According to a post published on Reddit, you can get a chat restriction, even if you’re joking around in the chat that can only be accessed by players you joined a queue with. Players who comment on the incident described above admit that it’s best to simply not use the text channel provided by Riot, because you never really know when your account might be blocked.

The entire system sucks to be honest, as most chat autoban features always do. The fact that you’d get chat restricted for saying something to a friend in game like “yeah my mom just got diagnosed with cancer, I’m bummed,” is just asinine.

In a game where an optional mature language feature already exists, there’s really no need to censor the players actively in game. You can already do that as well by muting someone. It’s just such a waste.

It is unclear whether Riot intentionally disabled chat scanning, which is ultimately intended to be visible only to premades. What is certain, however, is that in order to avoid blocking, it is advisable to avoid harsher language regardless of where the message is sent.
