The availability of Prestige Lunar Eclipse Senna is very controversial. Why are many players angry with Riot?

League of Legends

Gamers believe that the Eclipse event was a cash grab and Riot was over-greedy.

The latest skins from the Eclipse series, which returned after a few years and was enriched with a few new heroes (previously only Leona had 2 skins with this theme) brought a mini-event to the game, which was not a pass but offered players some interesting missions with rewards. For free, you could get the Eclipse Capsule, which gave you 3 random skin shards, and an event bag, which also gave you some random cosmetic extras.

On the occasion of the premiere of new skins, another Prestige Senna appeared in the game, this time called Lunar Eclipse. It was the focus of many players who wanted to get it. This skin started a new way of presenting prestige skins – they now have brand new splash art, not a recolored version of the base art.

Unfortunately, there were only a dozen or so days to get the Lunar Eclipse Senna. The mini-event was much shorter than the regular pass, and in addition, it was not possible to earn tokens that players would exchange for a Mythic Essence.

Some fans of the heroine stated that the information about the skin’s availability was not sufficiently announced – many people had no idea that this one would disappear on the last day of the event. It was hoped that it would stay in the store at least until patch 12.12 (then the rotation of Prestige skins changes). Unfortunately, this did not happen.

The new Prestige Senna has arrived with a border and icon in the Mythical Shop with the start of the Eclipse event. This was not a typical pass, and the main attraction was the Eclipse Capsule Missions. Players could also purchase them with RP, and each capsule had active Loot Milestones. For opening the appropriate number of Capsules, the player receives Eclipse skin shards and Mythic Essence.

On May 10, one of the Rioters – KenAdamsNSA – announced on Twitter that there are only a few days left to unlock the event content.

As a reminder, the Prestige Eclipse Senna and Eclipse Capsules 2022 will expire on May 13 at 8:59 AM.

Unfortunately, this information did not reach some of the community at all.

Skin disappeared from the store and some Senna fans felt terribly disappointed. They thought it was unfair that the new Prestige skin was only available for 2 weeks. In addition, it appeared without a pass, i.e. it was not possible to unlock it by acquiring tokens.

One player wrote on Reddit:

The way that Lunar Eclipse Prestige Senna was handled was absolutely ridiculious. Only in the shop for about two weeks, with no active pass to even be able to earn her. The only communication we had on her being available for that long was through a Rioter’s twitter account. And now we’re just supposed to miss out on the border + icon forever, and the skin for a good few years, because Riot was lazy with communication?

The way that you guys are trying to push this pressure/FOMO tactic for the goal of getting people to spend $100+ dollars on capsules to get prestige skins to the forefront is not cool in the slightest. I totally understand that this is a business and money needs to be made, but this is very greedy business practicing for no reason. We had a perfectly fine prestige system already in place.

Many commentators admitted that Riot’s behavior was really bad and the Eclipse mini-event turned out to be a simple cash grab. Players worry that this may happen again in the future and that the developers will suddenly announce a Prestige skin that will also only be available for a short time.
