New item for tanks in League of Legends is too popular? What is happening in ARAM mode?

The Heartsteel dominates League of Legends. Fans are begging for changes to the item.

Heartsteel is a new mythic item designed for tanking that has made its way into League of Legends in the currently ongoing preseason. The item has proven to be far too powerful, and many players are disappointed that Riot hasn’t done anything about it yet.

Despite the fact that the item was designed with a specific role in mind, it is currently used by virtually everyone, which translates into a terrible gameplay experience for many players.

Heartsteel is an item for everyone on ARAM

At this point, the item in question is so powerful that it is common to see ADCs who will abandon their standard builds and choose Heartsteel as their mythic item to improve their damage. This has reverberated loudly and caused numerous statements to appear online, with fans asking Riot to remove the item before the release of season 13.

Looking at the stats provided by the item, and the effect of being able to indefinitely stack maximum health, it’s not hard to see what could have gone wrong – especially in ARAM mode, where the item is purchased more often than any other.

On ARAM you fight practically all the time, so there will always be an opponent nearby. For this reason, extra damage is applied really often, and the ability to stack health simply makes the characters survive longer.

In particular, characters who are able to reach the enemy’s backlines and then return to a safe position, such as Akali or Katarina are able to quickly stack the item’s passive ability. When the extra HP is combined with considerable damage, the character can become really strong, and the most annoying thing for players is that this is something that happens regularly.

It’s hard to say whether the developers will decide to somehow change how the item functions, or whether it will simply be weakened enough to make building it on non-tank characters less viable. What is certain at this point is that it needs tweaking before season 13 hits the live servers.
