Maokai’s buffs from upcoming patch will bring LoL champion back to jungle

Maokai’s buffs will significantly improve his jungle clear. What exactly has been changed?

Few champions are versatile enough to be played in multiple positions. Maokai belongs to a group of characters that have been chosen both in the forest, the top lane, or in a support role. At this point, however, it can be seen that the champion has mainly appeared as a support. The upcoming changes, however, may change everything. What adjustments have the developers prepared for him?

Maokai changes in patch 12.23

Maokai is currently doing quite well, but only in its most popular position – support. He wins 51.5% of games there and is selected as support in nearly 70% of games. In the jungle, the champion is at this point only in 10% of all games. He doesn’t do well in it either – he wins less than 48% of games there.

Update 12.23 includes buffs to the hero, which will not only increase the amount of health restored with the passive ability but also improve his damage dealt by Q – Bramble Smash.

  • Sap Magic (P)
    • Amount of restored HP increased from 4-10% to 4-12% (dependent on level)
  • Bramble Smash (Q)
    • Base damage increased from 65/110/155/200/245 to 70/120/170/220/270
    • Bonus damage to creatures increased from 80/100/120/140/160 to 120/140/160/180/200

The news, which is sure to please players of this champion, is that the buffs do not significantly affect how Maokai is played. The most noticeable change is the increased damage dealt to monsters. The buff should increase Maokai’s rate of clearing the forest.

With Scuttle Crab’s changes, the hero should be able to go through camps in less than 3 minutes, which is a key current preseason meta. Besides, increased base Q damage will improve wave clear and vitality in the top lane.

The enhancements are in response to the nerfs from patch 12.20, in which healing from the passive ability was lowered. The nerf negatively affected its performance, and fans prompted the developers to rethink the case.

Buffs should also support Maokai from the top lane. After the aforementioned weakenings, it could be seen that the hero was quickly pushed out of the meta. The fixes for the moment can be tested on PBE and will hit official servers on December 7 with update 12.23 (An earlier description of patch 12.23 for LoL. A huge number of changes are coming to League of Legends).
