LoL players are already complaining about Aurelion’s rework. Is his redesign a complete failure?

The refreshed Aurelion Sol was not to the liking of many League of Legends players. Why?

Aurelion Sol premiered almost seven years ago. The mighty Architect of the Stars, unfortunately, has not enjoyed much popularity in recent years. It was said in the League of Legends community that he was played by only a small dedicated group of fans who sincerely liked his type of gameplay. For the rest, the hero remained virtually invisible, so the developers decided to do a rework to give him a new life.

After many announcements, Aurelion’s rework finally hit the servers. It didn’t take long for the first critical comments to appear on the Internet.

About Aurelion’s rework in LoL

There have been a lot of critical comments on Reddit about the rework of Aurelion, which barely hit the live servers. Some even claim that the character’s remake is a “complete failure.”

In one post, fans said that the champion’s play style has remained mostly the same, and the character itself can now build other items, including ones that make him tankier. Additionally, it has infinite scaling, which raises some issues.

One player found that what was a problem with Aurelion – his style of play, which did not encourage many LoL fans – was left unchanged. Instead, the developers gave him much better scaling under AP and the ability to build other items, making the champion harder to kill. An example is Crown of the Shattered Queen.

In short, Aurelion Sol further wants to clear a wave of minions as quickly as possible, and then go top or bot to gank an opponent who has advanced too far.

Players who think the rework in itself is not that bad point out the poor character balance. It makes it impossible to lose a team fight if you have Aurelion on your side, due to his strong scaling and incredibly easy-to-hit skills that have a large hitbox.

Looking at the statistics alone, one can nevertheless conclude that the rework has served its purpose, as the champion is actually much more popular. Currently, his pick rate is more than 20%, which is a huge change compared to less than one percent before.
