LoL is not accessible to new players. The community has an idea how this can be changed

League of Legends fans say Riot should take better care of new players.

LoL is one of the most popular games in the world. Since 2009, the title has changed a lot – today there are over 160 heroes, over 1,300 skins, different game modes, and almost every now and then new events with a pass and prizes take place.

Unfortunately, despite the passage of time, the game does not have the appropriate tutorials that would make life a bit easier for new players. Newbies to the League need to understand dozens of mechanics, learn a variety of items, learn the rules of the jungle, and more. It can all be incredibly overwhelming.

Those who have been playing LoL for a few years believe that Riot should change the approach to new players and introduce a few improvements to the title.

How to help new League of Legends players?

A thread appeared on Reddit about the accessibility of the title for new players. It cannot be denied that League is not one of the simplest games. The entry threshold is quite high, especially when it comes to getting to know the champions and mechanics from scratch without the help of someone who knows them.

It is true that there are many guides on the Internet (in the form of text or YouTube videos), but people who are just getting acquainted with the topic do not know exactly what to look for.

One Reddit user written:

New player experience is heavily neglected.

I know Riot stated that they are primarily trying to maintain players, but with the release of Arcane, new people tried League because they were interested in it.

League still can get a high influx of new players especially if their other projects are doing well. But if they are met with this horrible obnoxious new player experience they probably will never touch it again. The game is a decade old with no proper tutorial.

A new player will go from stomping bots, to getting stomped on by smurfs, so I have two suggestions:

  • Improve bots, They have done this in Wild Rift and the bots are way more responsive and they don’t just let you walk all over them.
  • Adding Tutorial(s)/improvements to practice tool. Just having tutorials that teach the basics in depth. Jungle clearing and Pathing, Wave management and wave clears, warding.

The game is really good at so many things, but I don’t understand why new player experience is so bad. The game is complex so trying to understand the basics is pretty tough without a tutorial. A new player shouldn’t search on youtube to know the basics of the game.

The topic of tutorial changes in League of Legends returns regularly. For years, the community has felt that the game doesn’t teach much of the basics, and newcomers often don’t even know they’re doing something wrong. Most things are hard to learn in a game against bots. The title in no way encourages learning to clean jungle camps.

There have been voices in the past that the training tool should be expanded, and during training, players should be able to choose any champion to get to know him and decide if they like the mechanics.
