Janna’s LoL players criticize her prestige icon. Is it worse than the graphics that came out a few years ago?

League of Legends players are wondering why the quality of some of the graphics is declining year after year.

Anyone who remembers the first splash art from League of Legends knows that the game has really changed a lot. Today, the early graphics are mostly a ghastly curiosity, as new players can’t believe that such crooked portraits actually appeared in the game once.

A few years ago, Riot came to a really solid level when it came to portraying its champions. Today, splashes that are, for example, 5 years old, look really good and don’t feel like they need any refreshing.

However, LoL is not only splash art but also icons or emoticons that can be bought in the store. Players complain that the developers don’t pay attention to them, and every year the images of the heroes are becoming worse.

Prestige Janna icon

One Reddit user brought up the topic of the Prestige Janna skin icon, which could be unlocked in the pass that just ended. Already after the graphic was revealed on PBE, many people thought that the heroine resembled a K/DA member more than someone from the Steel Valkyrie universe.

This time, however, the issue was not whether the character’s image fit the series, but the fact that her face is crooked and looks strange.

A player wrote:

Janna icon 2017 vs now. Why cyber halo Janna icon is this bad? How can a 2022 champion icon look like a triangle with face features when they did the sacred sword Janna icon that nice? Also I made some changes, I think it looks nicer than before

A player compared the new icon to Janna’s portrait from the Sacred Sword skin. It’s been a couple of years since its release. Unfortunately, the community has found that during this time Riot has not improved at all, and in fact is getting worse – the icons are noticeably losing quality.

This is a sample of fan comments on the matter:

Icons have been looking terrible since a long time now, most of emotes and icons have been butchered recently.

These days, the characters on LoL icons don’t even look like themselves. Just look at Evelynn’s Spirit Blossom icon.

The icon mentioned in the comments:

The chronic outsourcing of art has led to a significant decline in art quality, especially in more ‘minor’ aspects such as summoner icons.

In the comments under the post, it was not established where exactly the problem might lie. For the mass of people, such a drop in quality is not understandable, since it seems that Riot can hire better and better artists every year, and yet the graphics often have errors, strange proportions, or unnatural poses.
