Is League of Legends dying? Riot’s CEO’s answer to this question may surprise you

Riot Games CEO answers an interesting question. Is LoL dying?

In the community of Riot’s most popular title, there have long been voices saying that League of Legends is dying. The game is already years old and it is natural that over time it will get boring for players. Nevertheless, LoL continues to be at the forefront of popularity among MOBA titles that can be found on desktops, and there is nothing to suggest that this will change.

In an interview, Riot’s CEO was asked if he shared the opinion of a part of the community that believes League of Legends is stagnating. What was his answer?

In the opinion of Riot’s CEO, is LoL dying?

During the interview, which was conducted by LPL’s casting director Guan Ze Yuan, a “really tough question” was asked about whether the League is getting old. What was the CEO’s answer?

I don’t think this question is difficult. The truth is that there is one region that is in significant decline. The whole rest of the world has been really stable over the last few years. The region I’m talking about is China – I think LoL in China is doing poorly because more and more players are moving away from PC to mobile devices.

We’re mostly PC players ourselves, so we didn’t expect that, so players moved to other titles, and we had to offer them League on phones perhaps a little too late.

If you look at League today the title continues to be huge, and I think it’s still at the forefront of games for PCs in China.

Riot’s remarks shed some light on what’s going on with League in China – the developers are trying to encourage fans to stick with the title by offering them a lot of exclusive content, such as splash art, game modes, and a chibi version of Crystal Rose Riven.

Although the title is doing a little worse in that market than in recent years, it continues to be the most popular PC game. League of Legends is rather far from dying, even though the Chinese market is really important for Riot.
