If Riot maintains this pace, the update of all old characters will continue until 2042

Players note that Riot needs to speed up the pace of work on new reworks, because they will run out of time.

League of Legends developers currently release about two character reworks a year. Not counting, of course, the smaller ones and those involving only individual skills, as was the case with Taliyah or Olaf.

Players rightly point out that with such a pace of work and releasing new characters, this is not enough. Looking also at the fact that there is a whole bunch of those already somewhat outdated.

Old character reworks

Currently on League of Legends servers, players can enjoy the new and long-awaited rework of the forest grandfather, Udyr. Statistics suggest that the community really liked him and, despite minor reservations, the character is brilliantly reworked.

As of this moment, he appears in 14% of matches and is banned in 30% of games. And while this can now be considered a success, there is a small problem with such reworks. The issue here is the long wait for changes.

As a user with the nickname HalexUwU pointed out in his post on Reddit, at the current pace of work Riot is releasing two reworks per year. This is far too little. As he counted, currently 40 characters need a new graphic layout. While in a few years another 40 will be added. This means that for the first round of reworks the creators will need 20 years and more for the second.

In addition, he draws attention to the release of skins for these champions. As everyone probably knows, developers complain that they do not like to rework characters. All this is due to the redesign of up to a dozen skins to fit the new model and have more interesting animations. This makes revamping extremely expensive and labor-intensive. For this reason, Halex says they should not release new content until they fix them.

It’s hard to imagine that during the 30th birthday that Gragas will have in 2040, for example, the character will get his first revival. The queues for renewals seem to be longer than for a doctor at the National Health Service. Perhaps Riot will rethink the matter and actually invest some of the money from the production of a huge number of skins in reworks. However, it does not look like it at this point.
