Hotfixes weakening Vi and Xayah in LoL. Rioter explains why the fixes were necessary

Xayah’s build based on Lethality significantly influenced the situation of the heroine, and Vi needed nerfs after the recent corrections.

Xayah finally made it to the meta in Season 11 after months of average performance. This was due to a new build where Lethality-based items could be found instead of traditional critical hit items.

The build turned out to be so strong that immediate fixes from Riot were required. For this reason, hotfixes hit the live servers that weakened both Xayah and Vi, which also required minor nerfs after the recent changes were made.

Rioter about the latest hotfixes

Xayah’s new build focused on items like Eclipse, Muramana, Infinity Edge, and situational Serylda’s Grudge or Lord Dominik’s Regards. It was based on regular Q poke, which has been boosted several times this season.

The new strategy allowed the heroine to break from a win ratio of 49.80% in update 11.20 to 53.14% in patch 11.22, which hit the live servers on November 3. The popularity factor has also increased dramatically – two updates ago it was 3.18%, while now it is 18.16%.

Such a rapid spike in popularity and win rate prompted Riot to make quick fixes on November 4. As Riot Phlox writes, the build turned out to be far too strong.

Xayah’s lethality build has caught on over the last few weeks and is quite overpowered.

Rioter also added in the comments section:

Lethality Xayah and Vi broke the 55% win rate (Xayah was better than Vi).

The statistics of these heroines have gone far beyond our established values, and waiting for the next patch could lead to a lot of bad games. Especially considering the fact that this is the end of the ranked season.

Xayah wasn’t the only character that needed immediate fixes. Vi’s changes to improve Q and R’s performance made her much stronger.

Vi’s recent rescript added a lot of consistency to her spells which pushed her over the edge of balanced.

The character’s base stats have been slightly nerfed to reduce their scaling later in the game. Ultimate boost duration has also been slightly reduced.
