Did you know that this player reporting option was just a placebo? Riot created it so that players could take it out on something

League of Legends

With the latest information on changes to the behavioral system, players have begun to mention Riot’s past ways to combat toxicity.

Riot is currently working on a system that is supposed to detect negative behavior “10 times more efficiently”. It sounds as if in the future it would not pay off to write anything in the chat at all. By the way, another month has passed since the announcement of chat being removed for everyone – but we can still write to your opponents on many servers.

Riot writes about its new system like this:

Another area we lost some of your confidence in is Champ Select reporting. Although we have been monitoring these reports, we didn’t add punishments for them accordingly as promised. Champ Select reports only make up about 3.2% of reports today, but we know that your experience in every part of the game still matters. I’m happy to share that we are tying punishments to Champ Select reports, and you’ll see an update on that in a patch coming very soon.

An option that was completely useless

Riot’s ways of dealing with toxicity have varied greatly in the past. Here you can mention the most useless option, which was only removed after a while. A few years ago it was possible to report players with the “Unskilled player” reason.

More experienced players have certainly noticed that someone’s skills were simply low. Funnily enough, it was a complete placebo. Riot created this to make submitters simply feel better.

There was no way to get banned from it, and in theory, these reports did something, but it was never confirmed that they were actually taken into account. As a final confirmation that it was just a placebo, perhaps the option was completely removed at some point.

Despite numerous petitions, Riot has never restored reporting a player for such a reason. It was just pointless. A long time ago, one employee explained that this was reflected in the matchmaking system, but this was never confirmed in official communication either.

Today it is just a curiosity. Something that shows how Riot once approached players’ reports. It’s scary to think about what awaits the community in the upcoming behavioral systems update.
