Arcane was just the beginning. Riot opens with further plans for this type of productions
The creators of LoL reveal that there will be many more fictional productions in the future. Will it not end with Arcane 2?
Arcane, the animated series from League of Legends, turned out to be a huge success. The story of two sisters – Vi and Jinx, and the conflict between Piltover, the city of progress, and its suburban district – Zaun, became a real phenomenon. The series held first place on the Netflix platform in over 50 countries, overtook other well-known titles, and became the topic of conversation not only for players but also for people who have never been interested in LoL.
The first season ended last Saturday, and the ending itself did not close many threads. It was obvious that Riot did not want to close this story because it will come back in a while. It didn’t take long for the creators to confirm that the second season of Arcane would actually be created. Will it be the only production of this type about League of Legends? It turns out that it won’t.
Arcane 2 and much more
Confirmation that the second season of Arcane is in production came really quickly. The players didn’t have to wait even a few days. Today it is already known that Arcane 2 will see the light of day, but it will not happen soon. Working on this type of production requires a lot of commitment and time, so players must be patient.
Many people probably dream that the second season of the series about Pilvoter and Zaun would be released in 2022. However, this will not happen. It is worth recalling that the work on the first season lasted about 6 years – from the creation of the general concept to its release.
Here’s a question – is Riot planning anything other than continuing with Arcane? What about the other regions of Runeterra? There are many interesting heroes in League of Legends, e.g. from Noxus, Demacia, or Ionia.
Shauna Spenley, who works for Riot Games, revealed that Arcane is just the beginning.

Riot made a deal with the Netflix platform to split Arcane over three weekends to better align with the in-game events. Probably a similar situation will be the case of Arcane 2. The premiere of the series about LoL was all the more special because players saw the first episode for free on Twitch.
The creators admitted that in the future they plan to cooperate with the Fortiche animation studio not only on the 2nd season of Arcane but also on other projects.
Shauna Spenley said:
Arcane’ is the launch pad for what I believe will be many stories.
The Rioter admitted that the creators of LoL together with the Fortiche studio would like to release more productions in the Arcane visual style. However, she did not reveal what heroes they will be about.
What’s more interesting – Spenley also revealed that Riot will not limit itself to animation only.
We’re exploring live-action projects and talking to writers and showrunners. We’re in the beginning stages of building out the direction we want to take.
It is difficult to predict what exactly the developers are planning. It may be a live-action movie, or it may be something else entirely. Riot has surprised its players more than once, so it will probably do it this time.
The Runeterra universe is huge and you can easily create many movies or series on this basis. Arcane has focused on heroes like Caitlyn, Vi, Jinx, Jayce, and Viktor, and there are over 140 other interesting characters in the game. Probably many fans would like to watch the animation about Yone and Yasuo, the conflict between Demacia and Noxus, or the fate of the inhabitants of the Freljord.
Completing more of these projects requires a tremendous amount of input, a staff of people, and months, if not years, of hard work. It can be assumed that the announced productions will not appear until 2023. Looking at what players got in Arcane, it is safe to say that it is worth waiting for the next few years.
