Discord is removing this feature from the Nitro version. Don’t be surprised if your avatars change

Discord has sent users a notification about the removal of one of the options from the Nitro Basic plan.

Discord has been changing a lot in the various Nitro version plans lately. And so users are now receiving emails about the cancellation of one of the features from the Basic version. Its removal will take place on December 12, so there is time to possibly unsubscribe if it is important to someone.

Still, most of the features will be retained, while it’s unclear if that’s all Discord will want to maybe not so much get rid of, but reduce.

What will be removed?

Those with Nitro Basic from December 12 will no longer have the option to set animated avatars. These will turn into static ones. Still, other features will be available:

  • animated and custom emoticons,
  • custom stickers,
  • 50MB file uploads,
  • custom backgrounds,
  • a badge on profile.

The email message that users get looks like this:

According to users, this is a very poor decision, dictated by the desire to make more money. People got used to something, and now they lose it, and not long after the introduction.

Of course, you can buy the better Nitro version and keep the animated avatars. However, this is already a slightly higher expense, which not everyone will decide on.
