Will there be a new CSGO? Will the game be ported to Source 2 or get a sequel?

The CS: GO community is concerned about Valve’s FPS. Can competitive shooters take its place?

In the past, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was the only FPS of its kind and had absolutely no competition. Currently, the biggest threat to Valve’s shooter is Valorant, which continues to surprise its player base with how much the company cares about the production and constantly modernizes it.

Will Gabe Newell & Co. intend to do something about it and save Counter-Strike’s player base before the bulk of it is taken over by other titles?

What could Valve possibly do but won’t, and why?

Porting CS: GO to the new Source 2 engine

It seems that the best option would be to move Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to the Source 2 engine. Although the developers used a newer engine to change certain elements of the game, it seems impossible to transfer the entire game at the moment. The reason for this is, for example, the Steam Market, as every CS: GO-related item on it would have to be reworked.

If Valve can find a way around this problem, then the game will likely switch to Source 2.

Creating a new Counter-Strike

Another idea is to create a new release from the Counter-Strike series. While in the case of the previous titles it was much simpler, when it comes to Global Offensive, the matter is completely different. First of all, the problem is again the Steam market and the solution to the issue of skins, which in some cases cost gigantic sums of money.

Of course, every problem could be solved, but if the game is profitable enough for Valve and its player base is still not tragically low, then they will not take any proper steps.
