Does CSGO take place in the world of Half-Life? It is certain that both games share common DNA
CS: GO veterans know that the Counter-Strike series is Half-Life’s “baby”. Why is it so?
The entire Counter-Strike series, including of course Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, is a derivative of Half-Life. This is because a mod for HF was made many years ago, which later turned into a separate production. To this day, both games share common DNA due to the history, engine, few map resources, and the fact that the titles revolve around shooting opponents.
Does Counter-Strike take place in the Half-Life universe?
First of all, Counter-Strike borrowed a lot of game elements from Half-Life, such as textures and assets. Interestingly, some of the original maps in this game’s history were located in or around Black Mesa. The fact that both titles can take place in one universe is confirmed by the fact that the game was originally sold under the name “Half-Life: Multiplayer Experience”.
It’s also worth mentioning that every copy of Counter-Strike: Source was bundled with Half-Life 2. That’s why Garry’s Mode requires so many textures from both games, as the production assumes the user owns them.
Many Half-Life fans believe that CS takes place in a world where HECU forces have successfully prevented the events of HF from happening. Anyway, it’s hard to say at the moment if Half-Life’s world is actually connected to that of CS. Agents of Riptide reveal a bit more information about the universe of this FPS, but it is still far too little to make any clear judgment.
