Everything you need to know).

Oricorio in Pokemon GO

Oricorio was introduced to the mobile game on March 15, 2022, although it had already appeared in the series much earlier with the release of Sun and Moon. It is a Pokemon of two types. The first is flying, the second depends on the form of the creature.

  • Baile style: flying and fire types,
  • Pom-Pom style: flying and electric types,
  • Pa’u style: flying and psychic types,
  • Sensu style: flying and ghost types.

The form of the creature depends on what flowers it drinks nectar from. In Pokemon GO, such a solution would be impossible, so Oricorio appears in different styles depending on where in the world it is:

  • Oricorio in Baile style: Europe, Middle East, and Africa,
  • Oricorio in Pom-Pom style: North and South America,
  • Oricorio in Pa’u style: Islands of Africa, Asia, the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean,
  • Oricorio in Sensu style: Asia and the Pacific.

The Pokemon may be inspired by the Hawaiian honeycreeper, a small passerine bird found in and around Hawaii. The Oricorio dance can also be derived from the mating dances of some birds.

Its styles are also inspired by well-known dance forms:

  • Baile’s style refers to flamenco (baile is the Spanish word for dance).
  • The Pom-Pom style is inspired by cheerleading dance routines.
  • Pa’u style refers to hula (pāʻū is the Hawaiian word for skirt, especially those used for hula).
  • The style of Sensu refers to Japan. It also has a noticeable resemblance to a geisha.

Each Oricorio’s dance has a different dynamic and presents different emotions. For example, the Sensu style is calm and composed, while Baile is characterized by passion and fiery temperament. The Japanese name for the creature is Odoridori. The name comes from the words odori (dance), tori (bird), and irotoridori (multi-colored).
