Details of Water Festival: Beach Week in Pokemon GO. Everything you need to know

The makers of Pokemon GO have announced a new event that will bring a lot of interesting attractions.


The first of June marked the start of a new, already 11th season in Pokemon GO. It also opened the holiday season, which will be associated with a number of events starring water and the beach.

One of them, Water Festival: Beach Week, will focus on a lot of interesting creatures and give players a new species, which, as you can easily guess, is related to beach sand.

The event will begin on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, and run until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Oceans of fun await in Water Festival: Beach Week! Our Water Festival event returns with a sandy(gast) debut!

Enjoy a week featuring Pokémon you’d find by sunny shores, Pokémon debuts, a Global Challenge, a special Timed Research ticket, and more!

On the occasion of the event, the following activities are planned:

  • Sandygast – Pokemon sand heap – and Palossand – Pokemon sand castle – will make their debut in Pokémon GO.
  • The following creatures will appear in the wild: Tentacool, Shellder, Krabby, Alolan Exeggutor, Horsea, Staryu, Marill, Wingull, Wailmer, Spheal, Finneon, Dwebble, Frillish, Clauncher.
    • Anyone who is lucky will hit Mantine and Popplio.
  • There will be themed Field Research tasks from which you can get: Lapras in a scarf, Frillish, Binacle, Clauncher and Sandygast.
    • It will also be possible to get Mega Energy for Blastoise and Swampert from the tasks.
  • Rainy Lure Module activated during the event will last 4 times longer.
  • There will be new opponents in raids during the event:
    • 1-star raids: Alolan Diglett, Hisuian Qwilfish, Carvanha, Feebas, Sandygast,
    • 3-star raids: Blastoise, Gyarados, Lapras in the shawl, Alomomola,
    • 5-star raids: Uxie (Asia and Pacific), Mesprit (Europe, Middle East, Africa and India), Azelf (Americas and Greenland),
    • Mega Raid: Mega Swampert.

The global challenge

A Global Challenge will take place throughout the event! Work with Trainers around the world to throw 300 million Nice Throws to unlock bonuses for all Trainers to enjoy for the remainder of the event!

Global Challenge bonus:

  • Increased Candy for Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws
  • Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokémon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws

Spotlight Hour

To celebrate Water Festival: Beach Week, an event-themed Spotlight Hour will run on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, from 6:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m., featuring the following Pokémon. The spotlight hour will also include a 3× XP bonus for catching Pokémon!

Timed Research

For US$5.00 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to access event-exclusive Timed Research.

Complete the research tasks to earn a surfer pose for your avatar and encounters with event-themed Pokémon!

The Timed Research tasks and their rewards will disappear on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Trainers will be able to purchase and gift tickets to any of their Pokémon GO friends that they have achieved a Friendship level of Great Friends or higher with. Please note that purchases—including those made for other Trainers—are non-refundable (subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service). Tickets cannot be purchased with PokéCoins.

*Please note that the Water Festival: Beach Week Timed Research Ticket will only be available in the in-game shop from Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

During and after the event, the following new items for the avatar will be available for purchase in the in-game store:

  • Diver Outfit
  • Diver Goggles
