Rioter responds to criticism from LoL players regarding the visual update of Elise

League of Legends

How does Riot want to improve Elise after her update has been criticized by players?

Elise in patch 12.5, despite considerable criticism from players, received a visual update. The heroine, both in her basic version and in the case of most of the skins, has received corrections to make the skills look more attractive during the game.

The fans didn’t really like Riot’s approach and style. Despite the negative comments, the rework unchanged from the PBE version found its way to live servers. One of the Rioters decided to answer some of the allegations made by the players.

Rioter on Elise changes

After the new look of the heroine’s skills, the community almost unanimously replied that it was a downgrade – the new animations, according to players, look much worse than those that had been in League of Legends for years.

Eventually, some fans came to terms with the changes, but some amendments still raise doubts. A good example is a post from one user who asked why Elise’s web is no longer white.

The new visualization of the effect isn’t too bad and I could come to terms with it, however I find the color of that web quite ugly and unsightly with its color scheme.

If they just made it white, even if they leave the same visual effect, I think it would look even better and make more sense.

I already know that the green color is for the shadow isles, but I am not convinced by that argument. How many champions from other regions do not follow the color scheme of their region? There are a few. And I think it’s more important that something looks aesthetic, than shoehorning it into something of the color scheme of his region

Many players have complained that the relatively realistic-looking white web now resembles a cartoon cocoon, with the unnatural Shadow Isles color. In the comments section below the presentation of the changes, most of the statements represent the opinion that the accent of the Shadow Isles in this case is unnecessary, and that the old animation just looks better.

Reav3 – Lead Champion Producer commented on why the cocoon couldn’t stay white.

White is generally not a good color for champs or VFX because it causes clarity issues. We are working on a update to that ability right now though.

Rioter announced that work is underway at the studio to improve the appearance of the skills.

We are looking to change it to more of a blueish color with hints of red in it.

However, not all players reacted positively to this news. Fans believe that so far no one has complained about the white color of the cocoon. In addition, many other heroes and their skins use white in their color palettes, such as Storm Dragon Lee Sin and Porcelain Protector Ezreal.

How big of an issue was it (white colour)? She’s been in the game for nearly 10 years and I’ve never heard of her causing clarity issues before

Many fans are holding off on the final verdict until the release of the fixes Riot is working on, but the community is unlikely to expect the old effects to be restored. This, in turn, can be quite a dissapointment for some Elise players.
