Big controversy with removing duos in LoL – will Riot have to fix the flex queue?
The LoL community is concerned about the game’s ranking status. The creators will have a lot of work to do.
After announcing that Riot wants to remove the duo queue, the Internet went wild. Gamers spoke out on this subject en masse, often criticizing the creators for ill-considered decisions.
A lot of people felt disappointed because they had been playing a duo with their friend or partner for years. Some people just don’t like playing solo because they only enjoy LoL while playing with friends.
The duo removal supporters gave various arguments in favor of the creators and additionally argued that those who want to play with friends can simply choose a flex queue. And here comes the problem – many LoL fans believe that this queue requires a lot of changes and problem solving, which will become even more visible after the mass of players moves from the duo to the flex queue.
Does flex queue need improvements?
For 2 days now, the League of Legends community has been bitterly discussing whether deleting a duo is actually a good idea. According to a large group of fans, the title is not ready for such changes, because the flex queue is struggling with various problems.
For a long time some players did not take flex seriously, they have often been considered “slightly more serious drafts”. It was precisely because of this that various ranking problems were not so noticeable.
According to the community, after removing the duo, a lot of players who do not like to play alone will move to the flex queue to test their skills and climb the ranking. These people will want the matchmaking system to be fair. Is Riot ready to provide this to them?
One of the players raised this topic. User Kordben stated that the developers have their hands full now, as the flex queue is poorly developed and requires some serious changes. In his post he wrote:
If Duo Queue will be removed then Riot have to fix the many issues of Flex mode to create a better environment for the game mode will see massive increase of players.
The lack MMR restriction within teams is a problem and the matchmaking system also causes many issues that makes me worry because Riot will need to adjust these numbers otherwise Flex Queue will be a huge fiesta. (3 premade+2premades should be similar elo-mmr nd the same goes to enemy in compraison If they are close to each one themselves). Even with 1 dia palyer combined with asilver-gold the distribution among teammates onward is hellish.
The player gave a few examples that he himself or his friends experienced:
Personal examples: We are gold-plat players and it’s really unfair as a plat supp with a gold adc botlane facing a dia1 adc and supp just because we got a random diamond 3 top laner.
The same goes to another experience when I played adc and I got a, random, flex gold 3 support who was bronze 3 in solo Q and it was horrible (like playing ranked around gold 4 with a beginner who just started lol a week ago) experience.
The author of the post thought that the system should be more rigorous so that the selected players match each other in terms of their level. Today, the flex queue is not taken particularly seriously, but after removing duos, a lot of fans of playing rankeds with a friend will try it out to show their skills there. No wonder such people will want fair treatment.
Yes, flex is for fun but that doesnt mean matchmaking system should work like you playing normal draft or blind mode.
It’s worth mentioning that Riot has just announced changes to the solo/duo queue. It is not known 100% what it will look like and whether the plans will definitely be introduced into the game. Perhaps the developers are already working on improving the flex queue and it will be fairer in the future.
