Riot will have to introduce darker skins to LoL. They have no choice now

League of Legends

In addition to voting for rework, there was also a vote for the theme Riot is to explore in its future skins.

It has been practically always said that LoL needs darker characters or even skins. Riot is very fond of colorful, happy heroes and lacks any greater balance. This is even confirmed by the recent vote on the theme Riot is set to introduce.

What’s good, Riot is at this point obligated and there’s no way to “get away” from it. Developers need to bring in a gothic skin line.

The gothic theme will appear in LoL

Players were given a choice of three skin lines. Here it is evident that the gothic theme won with a huge advantage. After that, the infernal and arclight motifs followed.

What does Riot say about that? As always, the answer is a formula that says little:

We’re excited to see this level of former emo kids excitement and can’t wait to deliver this angsty thematic.

We haven’t visited the Gothic thematic in a minute—and much like emo—we’re glad it’s not dead. We’re really excited at how our middle school aesthetic might look in current League, and there are a bunch of different directions we could take it. We’ve started exploring some of them already, as we’re well into the discovery process—from cute and spooky to serious and dark, there are so many shades of black for us to try on. Our next steps are identifying what feels really good about the existing Gothic skins, and which direction we’d like to move in for the new skins!

We’ll check back in on things later, but for now we’re looking forward to approaching this thematic with a sense of poise and rationality.

Now developers will have to introduce darker skins, at least in theory.
