Riot promises to release more “monster” heroes in the League of Legends after Nilah
The creators of LoL promise that in the future there will be champions who are real monsters.
After Bel’Veth was revealed, some players were disappointed as Riot focused heavily on her human form. Even the heroine’s portrait in the game was replaced, which was commented on in many places on the Internet (see: Bel’Veth’s graphical changes have appeared on the PBE. Why does Riot’s approach surprise League of Legends players?. Fans claimed that all this makes the character not quite a monster, or at least not what they expected in a long time since the last monster was released.
Many of the newest heroes are just attractive people – Zeri, Akshan, Viego, Seraphine, Samira, and Yone. For some, it’s just boring to add another character that is flawlessly beautiful. And as you know – the next champion is Nilah, who will be an ADC melee.
Players would love to get a champion that is truly creepy and dark and has no human form. Riot knows this, so they decided to comment on it.
A new monster in League of Legends
The lead producer of the game, Ryan “Reav3” Mireles, shared his insights on what the new roadmap of LoL heroes development will bring. As it turns out – interesting things appear in the plans of the creators.
We released Bel’Veth, and we do have another monster/creature champion in development right now. It’s still early, so it’s a while until you’ll see that champion.
Obviously it’s not just monsters we’ve been focused on, but diversity in general. This has been a big goal with champions over the last few years, and that also includes cultural diversity.
Nilah is inspired by South Asia, so was Akshan; you’ve got Vex, who is a Yordle, an older woman in Renata – in general we’ve been looking for different opportunities to add more diversity to the roster.
Information that more dark and monstrous heroes will appear in League of Legends will surely please many players. The fact that the creators focus on diversity has been known for a long time, but some fans of the title have argued that it is not enough to add human champions of different origins, skin color,s or orientation because LoL is a game in which there are also other races and this is what diversity players want.
It remains to hope that the creature Riot is working on will be interestingly designed and will appeal to those who are waiting for a real monster.
