Players think €2 accounts are destroying League of Legends. Why isn’t Riot doing anything about it?

The community is complaining that accounts leveled by bots are freely available to the public, which is a paradise for trolls.

It has been known for a long time that League of Legends accounts that have been expedited by bots can be purchased at online auctions. This type of offer is used by all sorts of people – those who want to start climbing the rankings on a clean profile or just do some kind of challenge. There are also times when someone decides to buy an account because they want to have it in another region to see what the games are like outside their main server.

While the above examples are still not too much of a problem, it should not be forgotten that a sizable portion of such accounts are bought by trolls. The League of Legends community believes that this is a serious problem.

LoL accounts for a few dollars

People who destroy others’ games usually play on purchased accounts, because for just a few dollars or euros, they can buy a completely clean profile on which they can troll before they get banned. When that happens – they move on to another account. Virtually nothing limits them, because there are thousands of auctions with accounts that are ready to play ranked. Many fans of the title do not understand this. Why doesn’t Riot do anything about it?

The problem was raised on Reddit, where one player wrote:

2€ accounts ruining games. Is there a reason why Riot doesn’t do anything about this issue?

All the accounts have been leveled up the same way: 5 accounts at a time playing Intro bots with automatically generated names. Sure there has to be a way to prevent them from doing this.

What if Ranked que was accessible only after account has verified phone number? Would it help to reduce the market of these easily accessible 2€ throwaway accounts?

The player suggested that perhaps Riot is not fighting the problem because bot profiles are boosting the studio’s statistics. It’s hard to say if that’s the main reason because that’s what only the game’s employees know.

Many commenters agreed that bot accounts can be really problematic, as this makes fighting trolls practically pointless. Notifications and a possible ban will not discourage people who take advantage of the auction shown the next day and can troll again under a different nickname.
