Jax is getting a sizable update. How much will the League of Legends hero change?

How does the mid-scope update of Jax announced by the creators of League of Legends look like?

Jax is one of the champions who, despite his simple skill set, is capable of doing a lot on his own. His skillset has looked practically the same since the beginning, despite the fact that he received small adjustments that were necessary for the hero to continue to interest players. Much in this regard can change the upcoming update 13.1, in which Jax will receive considerable improvements. What exactly have the developers written about them?

Jax’s upcoming update

A few weeks ago, Riot officially confirmed that Jax and Rell are next in line for a mid-scope update. After weeks of waiting, Riot has revealed the complete list of changes Jax will receive in one of the upcoming updates.

According to then chief designer of heroes in League of Legends – Riot August – Jax will receive changes to his E and R. His super-skill is expected to be more exciting and rewarding to use. The changes are also expected to make building APs make sense again.

The Jax midscope update will be showing up on PBE tomorrow (12/2). Planned patch is 13.1. Feedback is welcome!

Jax’s update is on the smaller side and mainly focused on making his ult more exciting/interesting to cast. We’re also bumping up his AP build for burst enthusiasts!

What does the complete list of changes look like?

  • Relentless Assault (P)
    • No changes
  • Leap Strike (Q)
    • AP Ratio removed
  • Empower (W)
    • No changes
  • Counter Strike (E)
    • Damage: 55-155 (+50% bonus AD) physical damage >> 55-175 + 4% max health (+100% AP) magic damage
    • Damage bonus per attack dodges: 20% of total damage >> 20% of base damage
  • Grandmaster’s Might (R)
    • Damage: 100 / 140 / 180 (+70% AP) >>> 100-150 (+60% AP)
    • Added VFX and SFX when passive attack is ready
    • NEW ACTIVE (with a new animation and VFX)
      • Jax swings his lantern around him, dealing 150-350 (+100% AP) magic damage to nearby enemies. If he hits a champion he gains 10-40 (+.1 Bonus AD) Armor and Magic Resist, plus 14-22 (+.1 Bonus AD) per champion hit for the next 8 seconds. During this time the passive damage applies every 2nd attack instead of every 3rd.

Riot focused on giving Counterstrike the ability to scale with AP, increasing the base damage and adding a 100% AP conversion rate. What was nerfed, however, was the bonus damage that the hero dealt for every blow dodged thanks to the ability.

However, the biggest improvements will be made to the super-skill – Grandmaster’s Might. The damage added to basic attacks is slightly weakened, but the skill will receive an additional activated ability. From now on, the ability will deal damage when used, and the resistance granted by it will depend on how many heroes manage to hit with it.

The Jax update is expected to appear on live servers in update 13.1, which will be the first patch of 2023. However, it can already be tested on PBE servers. As an interesting side note, Rioter also wrote about a secret passive ability that introduces a mini-game with fishing. It’s hard to say what exactly he had in mind.
