How many people are working on a new character for LoL? The list is longer than you might expect

League of Legends

Riot August reveals the number of people creating a new hero for League of Legends.

Designing a new league champion is a complicated and time-consuming task. Riot starts working on it even several months before the first announcement.

Few players know how many people actually work on creating a hero from day one until his release. It turns out that the list is really big, and hardly anyone would have thought about some of the elements.

How many people create a new character?

As many as 159 different characters have entered League of Legends at the moment. Each of them differs in both appearance and skills, history, and more. Riot usually works on one such character for several months.

Players are sure that the work on the character comes down to a few people designing new animations, models, splash art, and finally voice actors. However, this is definitely not all, and a lot more staff is needed. Riot August showed an extensive list on one of its streams a few days ago and it is really long.

In total, Rioter has shown about 19 different groups of people. However, this does not mean that you need exactly that many employees. Some things require more than 1 person to create. For example, dialogue lines not only need to be written but also recorded and edited. Lore has to agree with the plot, so once again, someone else is needed to analyze it.

As you can see, creating a new character is not that easy. The project involves a whole team of various people who deal with many elements. As a result, the whole thing takes a long time and is extremely expensive.

A similar situation occurs during full rework. August pointed out that this is even a much more difficult task, because with, for example, Ryze, you have to create 14 skins from scratch, and with the new hero only the basic model and one skin.
