How is it for employees that work in Riot? Do the creators of LoL treat freshly-hired people badly?
What are the conditions in the studio that is working on one of the largest computer games?
Riot, along with its games, of which League of Legends is undoubtedly the most popular, has a huge share on the gaming market. Despite the relatively small number of published games, a large number of people are constantly working on each of them.
Due to the fact that League of Legends is an online production that is constantly supported, the team that is working on LoL itself must be quite large. Employees are divided into individual departments, and each of them is responsible for a different element. The same Rioters don’t usually work on designing a new champion’s skill set and creating the next skin series or event at the same time.
The computer games industry is specific mainly due to the pre-imposed release dates. It is not uncommon for workers to end up working overtime to finish a product on time. What does it look like in Riot?
How does Riot treat its employees?
On the web, you can often find statements by former or current employees from various companies that develop games. There is often talk of the crunch phenomenon, which describes the race for a project to be completed on time.
New content is regularly released to League of Legends. These include heroes as well as cosmetics, such as skins, icons, and emotes. Designing a new character’s skillset and then testing it so that a champion can appear on live servers is not a simple task. A problem faced by the creators meant that Bel’Veth – coming jungler from the void to LoL – will be released a little later.
Reminder that Bel’veth is delayed simply because Riot doesn’t want to overwork their employees. At least that could be learned from August.
One of the Rioters commented on the thread, and shortly after publishing his comment, he removed it for unknown reasons.
Riot has (and has) it’s share of problems, but it’s by far the best place I’ve worked at in multiple metrics. I can’t think of many companies in the gaming industry which, on the whole, treat workers better.
As the employee himself wrote, Riot has been involved in many unpleasant situations in the past, such as the one with discriminating against women in the company. Despite this, Riot is still doing really well in comparison with other companies in the gaming industry.
