Faster game surrenders and ranking queue changes in League of Legends

LoL developers have announced changes to the game’s queues. Players will be able to surrender even faster.
Some matches on Summoner’s Rift are quickly predetermined and it is practically certain that a certain side cannot win. Of course, there are those who believe that one should not lose hope and fight for victory until the last second of the match. Nevertheless, a sizable part of the community believes that it is better to give up and start another game, instead of agonizing in the previous one, in which the advantage of enemies is crushing.
With help here comes the possibility of surrender, which has been modified throughout the years of League of Legends’ existence. Currently, Riot is testing the ability to surrender games faster and faster, which is also supposed to make finding the next match more efficient.
Faster surrender in League of Legends
The developers have announced that they are working on some changes relative to surrendering matches, but also the ranking queue. At first, it’s worth reading what Riot said about earlier surrender on normal mode:
We’ve tested lower surrender timers in normals for several patches now, and the impacts have met our expectations: slightly increased surrender frequency leading to slightly lower average game times. We believe this change is right to allow teams more agency in choosing which matches to play out.
In a further speech, the topic of the ranking queue and the changes that are envisioned for it was discussed. Here, the operation of the surrender was also looked at.
In Ranked Solo and Ranked Flex queues, normal surrender (4 out of 5 OR 70% of team members must agree to pass the vote) is available at 20 minutes ⇒ 15 minutes. Unanimous early surrender requirement has been removed. This change will go live around ~7pm UTC on April 7.
Finally, Riot mentioned some tests that will appear in some regions, including but not limited to the EUNE server.
We’ll be running an experiment in Normal Draft in EUN, OC, and RU during the 13.7 patch cycle, specifically to test some of our functionality around matchmaking for the upcoming Quick Play queue type. For these regions during the testing window, the changes will be as follows:
- Autofill is removed.
- All players in a party must choose unique primary assignments.
- If a player chooses a priority role as their primary assignment, they do not need to pick a secondary assignment. If they choose a non-priority role as their primary assignment, they can only choose a priority role or fill as their secondary assignment.
