It’s clear that Riot is very fond of staffing League of Legends with goodies like this one.
Riot some time ago significantly changed the prices of quite a few champions, making some characters drop from the top price bracket to the level of 450 NE, as in the case of Yuumi.
Riot, taking a somewhat looser approach and no longer policing so closely the pattern of pricing heroes the more expensive the closer they are to release, took the liberty of introducing a specific price ceiling in the case of Jhin, who is associated with the number 4. It turns out, however, that he is not the only character who has his own unique price.
Who else has a unique price?
A table with new hero prices was published in February. Among those that have been known to players since practically the beginning of the League, there was a price reserved exclusively for Jhin – the hero’s price is 4444 BE.
However, not everyone was in agreement about making this change, as written by one of Riot’s designers Jordan Checkman, better known as BarackProbama.
We are updating the hero pricing policy. I worked with Riot August on this and it was really pleasant until I suggested that Jhin should not be an exception in the structure. That’s when August got really brutal.
However, it turns out that after the last patch, one more price has changed. It concerns Vel’Koz, which now costs 3141 BE. These are the first 4 digits of the number Pi, which refers to the storyline abilities of the said hero.
Interestingly, the designers had already wanted to assign such a price to Vel’Koz, but BarackProbama was against it.
Instead, I managed to stop the studio from pricing Vel’Koz at 3141 BE. It cost me everything I had and even more.
Finally, the champion received its unique price. It’s hard to say whether it has made its way into the game permanently, or perhaps just for one update that came to League of Legends on the occasion of the first of April. Nevertheless, it’s a good opportunity for those who didn’t own Vel’Koz before, as his standard price so far was 4800 BE.
