What’s this new Twitch icon? It is about the “Cheers” function which is already being tested

Twitch has started testing its new system, which has been called “Cheers”.

Everyone got used to the fact that it is rather Youtube that creates its options and functions based on what Twitch came up with. In this case, it is the opposite. It is Twitch that seems to be introducing “Cheers”, which are supposed to be something like a Youtube super chat.

For now, it is only tested on selected streamers. According to unofficial information, Twitch directed his steps first to the Americans. They are the ones who have the option to turn on “cheers”.

How does it work?

In short, these are direct donations, the division of which is 80/20% in favor of the streamer. Unfortunately, it’s not that great. It is about 80% that will be left after the fees.

So, for example, the streamer gets $ 1 through the Cheers system via PayPal. PayPal’s fees are 52 cents, which leaves 48 cents. This is where the 80/20% split comes in, so the streamer gets 38 cents – he loses about 61% on the entire operation.

Will it be profitable? Probably in some cases, yes – the general idea is to handle data directly by Twitch, not third parties.

It is not known when Twitch will introduce this to more people. Potentially, the tests will take up to several weeks. After that, the platform will have to decide if it is profitable for it or not and whether it prefers to focus its energies on something else.
