The Little Mermaid officially hit theaters on May 26. It’s been almost a week since its premiere, so one can already start to wonder how it’s doing in terms of ratings or earnings.

Surely, the film stirs up great excitement not only among children but also among adults. After all, a few days ago there was a sharp exchange of words between two women in the middle of the screening. We wrote about it here – CLICK.

How much has The Little Mermaid earned already?

It’s well known that the Little Mermaid movie is one of the more high-profile live-action installments of well-known Disney titles. And while the controversy surrounding the main cast didn’t die down until the premiere itself, many say that in the end Halle Bailey as Ariel pulled off her difficult and demanding role quite well. There were even claims that the actress turned out to be the perfect choice after all.

Deadline reported that the film earned $163.5 million worldwide in its first week, of which $95.5 million came in the first three days after its release. It is known that the first week is the most important and now earnings will drop, but experts are not worried. Steve Buck for The Wall Street Journal:

The Mermaid result is pretty decent for what it is. As a family film it seems to be hitting all the right marks.

With Mermaid, you see a bit lower performance at the box office, but that’s because 28% of its viewers are kids, and they’re paying a discounted price for tickets.

With more than 160 million in revenue for its first week, the film is on track to top its $250 million production budget. Experts are confident that, despite some controversy, The Little Mermaid will be a success, which means Disney will have the green light for more live-action titles.
