Overwatch broke its records on Twitch. The drops turned out to be a bull’s eye, at least for a moment
It is too early to comment on the beta and whether what Blizzard has shown actually deserves the number “2” at all, but Overwatch fans must have felt like their favourite game is coming back.
If someone expected huge graphic or mechanical changes, they may be a bit disappointed. However, it is important to remember that this is a beta, and Blizzard has not shown everything yet. Certainly, many elements are rebuilt and changed – from UI to the characters themselves.
So far, there are as many people praising Overwatch 2 as there are criticizing it. One thing for sure is Overwatch’s record on Twitch. The drops system definitely did what it had to and Overwatch was at the top for a while.
How does Overwatch compare to other drops?
Several games have made use of the drop system in recent years. The most famous example was by far Valorant. At that time, 1.7 million people watched the streams. How did Overwatch 2 fare?
OW streams were scattered across two categories – Overwatch and Overwatch 2. This was mainly due to the fact that the drops were enabled in the Overwatch category, but some were streaming in Overwatch 2 anyway. Ultimately, Overwatch had 1.4 million viewers:
Overwatch 2 had about 91,000.
In total, it can be said that it managed to get close to 1.5 million viewers at one time. While Riot and Valorant weren’t beaten, it’s a really decent result.
