Overwatch 2 players will wait at least a year for the new DPS. At the earliest, it will appear in 2024

From all the announcements coming out to the Overwatch community, it seems that Blizzard is suspending the release of new DPS characters for a while.

Overwatch 2 is, of course, not just about moving to 5vs5, introducing new systems, revamping mechanics, etc. It’s also, and perhaps most importantly, new characters. According to information shared with the community, the developers do not want to release more DPS-type heroes.

At the same time, this does not mean that other roles will be forgotten. Certainly, several tank and support heroes will appear in the second part of the game. Two support heroes and one tank are expected to appear in the first year of operation.

No DPS characters

DPS is, of course, the most besieged role – everyone likes to inflict as much damage as possible. As a result, in recent years, these are the characters that have been “polished” the most. This is now changing.

The feedback on this is rather positive. People realize that more diversity needs to be introduced int the form of tank and support heroes. More choices mean more possibilities. The only concern is that characters will appear in passes and will have to be unlocked.

It’s hard to say unequivocally at this point whether “locking” characters through passes is a good idea and how much it will actually take to unlock heroes. Supporters, i.e. often regular players, will say that a dozen days is enough. Others will criticize that they have to spend much more time or money to do it.

The Overwatch community very often disagrees with each other. No one is surprised by this anymore because everyone has a different perspective on the matter, which often depends on seniority in the game or the amount of time spent on it. On the other hand, it is worth remembering that at the launch we will see at least Sojourn.
