Did you think it could be that simple with Blizzard? The “premiere” of Overwatch 2 is actually an “Early Access”
If it were any other studio, October 4 would be the release date of Overwatch 2 in all its glory, but it’s Blizzard, so nothing can be clear and understandable.
Yesterday, the whole world shared the same information – on October 4, Overwatch 2 of the Free2Play model will debut. And everything is correct in theory, except that it will not be a full-fledged premiere. Why?
Blizzard calls it Early Access and “Launch Start”. It’s hard to say if the communication around Overwatch could be even more complicated. The indigenous community will know what’s going on, everyone else will scratch their heads and bounce off OW2 again in October.
Is it a premiere or what?
Blizzard writes about the launch of the release in Early Access. So this Early Access will not include PvE, the key game mode for Overwatch 2. So what’s going to be there? Changed PvP, new heroes, new maps, new cosmetic items etc. As the creators write:
This is the most significant release in Overwatch history since its debut, and it will begin with early access to a new PvP experience, heroes, maps, and more with a new, free-to-play model.
Early Access is the next stage with the premiere of Overwatch 2. Because Overwatch 2 itself is PvP and PvE. Early access will be a redesigned PvP mode, i.e. the release date of a full-fledged OW2 is still unknown.
It is not known why Blizzard writes about the premiere of Overwatch 2 at a time when it is the premiere of the revised PvP mode itself. Today players are hyped, but in a few months a lot of people will be very disappointed and many will cite a classic saying that, overall, OW2 is a slightly changed OW1.
