Blizzard resigns from the release of Overwatch 2. The developers have come to the conclusion that they want to focus on Overwatch 1

Blizzard, under the pressure of players, but also due to the whole mass leaving Activision Blizzard, decided to give up on Overwatch 2.

For many months, players have been pointing out that Overwatch 2 is actually a slightly changed Overwatch 1. Blizzard could as well add PvE mode and new heroes to the “one”.

Instead, Overwatch 2 was supposed to appear, in which the graphic design was simply changed. Due to the fact that the naming of “Overwatch 2” could be misleading, Blizzard completely abandons this idea.

Overwatch 2 was the wrong naming

Dropping “two” in the name doesn’t mean Overwatch itself won’t receive the update. But it is supposed to be just an update, not a completely different game. At the same time, Blizzard quietly admits that it is changing the OW business model.

Update 2.0 will be available to everyone for free. In theory, older players who own Overwatch 1 will get some special cosmetic items, but it’s hard to say if they will make any sense.

Everything will continue as planned. Except no one will use the term “Overwatch 2” anymore. The developers themselves admit that this is not the second part of the game, but only a hugeupdate.

It seems to be a good decision, especially since it was announced on such a special day as April 1.
