This is the end of normal Overwatch events. New skins and Overwatch 2 probably this year

This is the end of an era in Overwatch. There will be no more normal events.

It looks like Blizzard actually wants to be ready for the Overwatch 2 release. The company has just informed that typical, standard events will no longer take place in the first installment of the game.
No more Archives nor the traditional Anniversary or the Summer Games are to be expected.

Instead, there will be some sort of “remixes” of events. This does not mean that all game modes etc. are lost. It’s just easier for Blizzard to do this slightly different type of event than the full-fledged ones.

What to expect?

Blizzard explained its approach in a special announcement. There is one thing worth mentioning here that could be evidence of the release of Overwatch 2 later this year. As rightly pointed out by Teko, one of the Polish YouTubers, Blizzard writes only about three events – Archives, Anniversary and Summer Games. Why is Halloween out of the question? This may (but does not have to) mean that Overwatch 2 will be released later this year. Of course, this should only be taken as a theory, but quite plausible.

Blizzard, in addition to saddening players with the information that the special Mercy skin will not reappear, also uploaded skin graphics, which are to be expected:

The most interesting thing here is, of course, that Overwatch 2 may come out later this year.
