A sizable set of changes to Steam are hitting the platform. New interface and mixed reactions in the gaming community

What are the opinions of gamers after the arrival of a sizable update to Steam?

Steam hasn’t received a major update that would change its design for a long time. At some point, however, it had to, and after a couple of weeks of testing the new interface, it began to hit the hands of players. Not everyone quite likes the update, however, and there is no shortage of comments online about the fact that quite a few things don’t work, and in Linux, in extreme cases, applications can’t even be loaded. What else do gamers write about the update?

A sizable update to Steam

Responses to the update to Steam are really mixed. From those in which fans write that the application needed it and the developers hit the jackpot to those in which you can find a mass of criticism asking to roll back the changes. A sizable problem was encountered in particular by Linux users, who had trouble running the app on many variants of that system.

This is all the more glaring because Steam Deck – a portable console from Valve – uses Linux, which the company’s developers in particular have been trying to focus on recently.

Some are also reporting that things like skins, which can completely change the Steam user interface to the way the user wants it, also no longer work. Skins have been part of the platform for years and the inability to upload them has left many players disappointed.

This update, while nice, killed skins and a lot of customization I put into steam and worked on. I miss having my old childhood relived in OG-Steam, and I hope for more customization either built into the steam settings, or in a future update to bring old skins back.

Shortly after the release of the update, quite a few smaller options didn’t work as well. There are also problems with AMD drivers, which cause there to be quite a delay from when you click on the bar to when it shows up on the screen.

Nevertheless, the overall response has been rather positive. Many people loved it and have not written about any problems encountered. As with most such major updates, really sizable bugs were to be expected, but at this point, other than those affecting Linux, not many have been heard of.
