Riot has clearly taken care of Sion. Developers had to analyze a niche where Sion’s mains just felt too good.
Sion is a very specific character who is not one of the most OP of all. Unless real connoisseurs play him. This is where the problem gets bigger. You can win the line against them, but you will lose the game for many reasons.
One of them was destroying two towers on the Nexus at once. This is a famous trick used by Sion’s experts, able to use all his strengths. Riot has apparently pinpointed the issue and is already making changes.
A nerf aimed at a specific tactic
Today we got to know Riot’s plans for patch 12.9, including nerfing an item called “Hullbreaker”. In a nutshell, skills or other effects are no longer buffed by the item.
What for and why? It is aimed directly at Sion. Thanks to this item, it was possible to do the following in selected cases:
Hullbreaker has been chosen quite often on Sion, but it is not extremely strong in itself.
However, the fact that Hullbreaker has become Sion’s first choice cannot be ignored. The winrate isn’t impressive, but the pickrate may have let Riot know something is starting to happen.
Sion’s gonna get hit badly. The character himself gets nerfs, and items for him are also weakened. He will have to be saved with buffs in a moment.
